Our Progress
Here is a page that showcases some of our highlights so far.
In April 2026, Parkinson’s ZA issued a formal open letter to the Minister of Health, calling for a critical and achievable reform to South Africa’s healthcare framework. The letter advocates for the inclusion of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy as fully funded Prescribed Minimum Benefits for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
Grounded in international clinical standards and South Africa’s own treatment guidelines, this call to action highlights a clear gap in current care: while medication is covered, essential rehabilitative therapies remain inaccessible to many. The result is avoidable disability, increased healthcare costs, and reduced quality of life.
This initiative represents a key step in our ongoing advocacy to ensure that people living with Parkinson’s disease receive comprehensive, evidence-based care as a matter of right—not privilege.
